Agriculture

Our Agricultural Reserve provides 93,000 acres–one-third of the county’s land area—for farming and open space.

Our diverse agricultural industry’s 560 farms–many of them family-run operations reaching back several generations–and 350 horticultural employ more than 10,000 residents.

Montgomery County ranks second in the state for the total number of horticultural firms, and you can find it all here—from nurseries and landscaping companies to sod farms and arborists.

Close to 10,000 horses are a vital part of our growing equine industry.

And, every year we celebrate the county’s agricultural heritage through our Annual Farm Tour and Harvest Sale, giving residents and visitors the opportunity to spend the weekend in the country petting farm animals, having lunch by a scenic pond and purchasing fresh fruits, vegetables, plants, flowers and more.
